I Like Chat Parties

Me, Mathias and our dear friend Brian arranged a chat date on MSN on 31st July.

Brian
1am, US time

Mathias
3pm, Thai time

Emily
4pm, Singapore time

And while online, we were suddenly making all kinds of weird emoticons (the things silly people do).

I Like MacRitchie Reservoir (Kind Of)

On a fateful morning of 3rd July, I woke up at dawn feeling pretty excited about my trip to MacRitchie Reservoir with the boys, Desmond and Matt. It will be a first-time trip for all 3 of us!

By the time we gathered at Marymount, it was drizzling a little but we decided to go ahead as planned anyway. And according to Matt, "the internet says no rain until late noon". Well, the internet was WRONG and the rain got heavier. For the first 5km, both Matt and I had our umbrellas out and Desmond, his poncho. I admit, I whined through the 10km (or more) trial. Walking in mud, puddles, uneven ground, uphill, in the rain with shoes that are falling apart + soaked socks is just not my thing.

The 2nd part of the trial after the HSBC Treetop Walk was more enjoyable because the rain stopped and we were able to savor the nature (Yo!). We got the view the canopy (main reason why we were there in the first place - Desmond wanted to view the canopy), walked up LOTS of stairs and Desmond and Matt stood at a certain spot for a long time, staring up monkeys' asses while I try to take photos of dragonflies who cannot be bothered by my presence!

By the end of the 4.5 hours journey, I felt a sense of achievement but secretly promise myself this will probably be the last time I go on a 10km hike in the rain with lousy shoes.

I'd Like A New Laptop

Gateway NV59C, S$1,388
15.6-inch
Intel Core i5-430M 2.27GHz
4GB RAM
1GB Nvidia GeForce 320M
640GB Storage

MacBook Pro, S$1,788
13-inch
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
4GB RAM
1GB Nvidia GeForce 320M
250GB Storage

iMac, S$1,788
21.5-inch
Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz
4GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
500GB Storage

I am so tempted to get the iMac (BIG screen!), but I know that I won't be able to commit to it. I think a laptop will be more practical for me at this point. Decisions, decisions!

I Like Pavel Fuksa

I really like the vintage-looking set of 178 matchboxes designed by Prague-based designer Pavel Fuksa for this narrative music video. Check out the details of the artwork here.

Made this some time back, and added string so it could be hung up! I want to hang it in Mathias' gloomy apartment. Hehehe!

I Like Fine Little Day/Elizabeth Dunker/Otto

Did I tell you how in love I am with these fantastic wallpaper made by 8-year old Otto, son of Elizabeth Dunker of Fine Little Day. You can buy them at her neat little online shop, Fine Little Day. I'm a regular reader (and fan) of her blog; she takes the most charming photos!

I Like Stamps

Some things I bought awhile back. The tiny ones are from Daiso; I got them so that I could stamp on my organizer. I'm really lazy when it comes to washing the stamps after using, but I just have to do it if I want to be able to use a different colour ink.

I Like Snail Mail

Bought the Air Mail envelopes from Bangkok some time back because I really like how the stripes and colours are so classic and has inspired so many designs out there. Yesterday, when I took them out to use, there was a hidden surprise! The graphics on the inside of the envelope are so detailed and vintage-looking; it's fantastic! I might also have gotten a little too enthusiastic with the tape. The dog sticker is truly a vintage, kept from more than 10 years ago!
